CapeClarke has been exclusively retained by FMG to source an in-house Commercial Contracts Lawyer.
Who is FMG?
FMG is the UK’s leading provider of bespoke end-to-end incident management and specialist vehicle recovery services. Founded in 1986, FMG has over 500 staff and currently operates out of a single site in Huddersfield.
The business has experienced significant levels of growth over recent years and operates broadly across three sectors: Fleet Claims Solutions, Insurance Claims Solutions and Roadside Solutions. Clients include leasing providers, fleet insurers, motor insurers, blue chips and public sector organisations including a number of police forces.
Following the merger of Redde plc and Northgate plc, which became effective on 21 February 2020, FMG is now part of the Redde Northgate plc group (FTSE 250 company with a £1 billion+ turnover and over 5,000 employees).
The role
As in-house Legal Counsel, you will be supporting the FMG business at large and, under the supervision of the Senior Legal Counsel, this will include drafting, negotiating and advising on commercial agreements, distribution agreements, supplier contracts, tenders, engagement letters, NDAs and licences, as well as managing legal risk, ensuring FMG’s risk and exposure to liability is minimised. In addition, the Deputy Commercial Lawyer will provide direct support into the business in respect of ad-hoc legal advice.
The role will be positioned at the very heart of the business and the legal function is integral to the whole operation. The business and the Board will look to the legal team to provide sound legal and risk management advice to various departments in the organisation.
Is this role for me?
FMG is looking for a Commercial Contracts solicitor from NQ up to around 5 years PQE (although applicants outside of that bracket who can demonstrate the required skills will be considered).
You will have experience in drafting and negotiating contracts, knowledge of commercial transactions and the ability to look beyond the documentation and consider the wider business aspects involved. You should be customer focused with good negotiation and communication skills and be able to build strong relationships with internal clients and external agencies.
You will need to be able to work autonomously (and also as part of a close-knit team) and with pragmatism in an environment where legal and commercial issues are entwined.
On offer is a very competitive salary and benefits package dependent on experience. Flexible working (including some home working) is possible. There will be free car parking.
