The next area of law for discussion is Real Estate.
The Current Market
An area which was massively hit in the recession (again, well-documented), there was slow recovery throughout 2010 to 2012 and then a real return to form throughout 2013, which has now gone from strength to strength in the past five years. Development and investment have boomed in recent years meaning teams of all sizes are very busy and have been recruiting heavily over the past four years – each of the large firms have taken on at least three or four solicitors per year.
Is this a good career option?
Real Estate is an excellent area to qualify into. So few people qualified into Real Estate in recent years against the number of opportunities, with the number of people who have left the profession in that same time, you will now find yourself as a 2-6 year PQE commercial property solicitor in high demand. There have been so many opportunities in the past few years we have seen many mid-tier (or even small firm) solicitors make the leap into the top-tier, completely transforming their CVs in the process. Real Estate is one of the cornerstones of almost every firm and is often the driving force and biggest turnover generator.
September 2019 opportunities
There will be a good number of NQ vacancies, particularly across the top and mid-tier firms. Now is a very good time to qualify as a real estate solicitor!
