CapeClarke are proud have been exclusively retained by Montagu Group to recruit their first Leeds based in-house lawyer.

Who are they?0

Montagu Group are a sister company to Tayto Group. Tayto Group are a Northern Ireland based food group, who are the 3rd largest snacks business in the UK (£173m turnover, 1400 employees). They own brands such as Golden Wonder and Mr Porky. They are ultimately owned by the Hutchinson family.

Montagu Group was set up two years ago to hold their vending machine business. In the last 18 months, they have acquired more than 5 different vending machine businesses (with more in the pipeline). They already have more than 600 employees, and a £50m turnover, with these figures potentially set to double in the next 12 months.

The business is currently based just off J27 M621, on the outskirts of Leeds. They will be moving to a new c.9,000 sq ft office building in the next 3 months, to house their continued growth.

What are they looking for?

Tayto Group has a General Counsel based in Northern Ireland. Montagu Group would like to recruit a Leeds based in-house lawyer to assist with the vending machine side of the business. The successful candidate would then report to Tayto Group’s General Counsel and Montagu Group’s COO.

As the only other lawyer in the business, you will work closely with the General Counsel in advising the businesses on a wide range of legal matters, including contractual, legal and regulatory matters and assisting in strengthening and improving the approach to legal and commercial risk management across the business.  You will be between 2 and 6 years PQE.

Specifically your role will include:

  • Drafting, reviewing, advising on, and where necessary negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts;
  • Assisting with the creation of new tools to improve legal risk management across the business;
  • Providing training on relevant legal matters to the  commercial teams across the businesses;
  • Providing advice to the business where commercial disputes have arisen or are imminent;
  • Providing advice and support to the business in relation to compliance with existing and new legislation; and
  • Providing advice to the business on a diverse range of ad-hoc legal queries.

Is this role for me?

We want to hear from you if you are a commercially minded, practical, qualified solicitor with relevant experience gained in-house or within private practice and looking to work for an incredibly ambitious organisation.

Given that this will be a position of responsibility within the business, you should have excellent communication skills, and genuine gravitas, and be looking for a challenging new opportunity to assist in strengthening and improving the approach to legal and commercial risk management within the group during an exciting period of strategic growth.

You should be confident, driven, reliable, passionate and committed to being part of the wider business, and to providing a high quality and responsive service to the other parts of the wider business, ready to roll your sleeves up whilst being able to simultaneously influence and develop the legal function within Montagu Group.
