The Changing Faces of Manchester’s City Skyline

8th April 2016

It’s no secret that Manchester is considered to be one of the most exciting UK cities in terms of modern property development. The iconic Beetham Tower coupled with the ever popular Spinningfields development have become flagbearers of Manchester’s contemporary, stylish and distinct city scape.

If you pick up a copy of Today’s Manchester Evening News, you will note that both these icons will now to be joined by no fewer than 32 new developments in the City Centre – over a dozen of which will be 30 storey+ skyscrapers. This veritable boom in property development is to include both retail, business and residential premises (including in excess of 10,000 new City-Centre apartments) and has already started leaving its mark, rarely has one seen as many cranes gyrating or heard so many wolf whistles on the streets of Manchester!

Capeclarke is excited to see such exciting property investment happening North of London and has listed, below, its top 3 developments to look out for:

The Axis Tower (Southern City Centre Fringe)

Ever since welcoming the incredibly distinct Beetham Tower to its skyline, Manchester has been crying out for a sister-tower to complement it. Well, it seems that the city’s desires are now one step closer to being realised with the news that the new high end, luxury apartment project, the Axis Tower (by our friends at Property Alliance Group), has recently been granted planning permission to begin construction of a 27 storey skyscraper – featuring 174 apartments – a short distance from Beetham Tower. We cannot wait to watch this future architectural classic go up!

Kampus  (Little David Street)

Tall, glass buildings reaching high into the Mancunian sky are not the only things to be excited about. Ask anyone based in Manchester what their thoughts are with regards to the current state of Little David Street and you’d be hard pressed to hear anything positive. Until now, that is. The run down, cobbled street just off Chorlton street has essentially been derelict and vacant in recent memory. But, no longer. The plan to bring “Kampus” to Little David Street is going full steam ahead and promises to bring 500 apartments as well as a host of hotels, restaurants and independent bars to kick-start the regeneration of this often forgotten space in Manchester’s City Centre.

One Spinningfields (Quay Street)

Until recently, the sole spot on the otherwise immaculate front-end of Spinningfields was the vacant, dilapidated block of former commercial premises which used to make up Quay House on Quay Street. Thankfully, our architectural sense of aesthetics has been finally been appeased – Quay House has since been demolished with a new development in the works. It has been aptly named One Spinningfields and is the work of – yes, you guessed it – the ever popular Ian Simpson. We are excited to see the 21 Storey building go up and book our table at the planned rooftop restaurant!
